To ensure the safety of our students and staff members, prevent disruptions and maximize instructional time, all external school doors are kept locked beginning at 8:00 a.m. Visitors must ring a doorbell and wait for the secretary to admit them into the school. If they will be entering the classrooms, cafeteria or gym during school hours, visitors must check in and receive a visitor’s badge.
Strict procedures are followed for the management of traffic in the parking lot during drop off and pick-up. There is a central PA system and a phone in each classroom, which enables the teachers to receive pages or contact the office if any need would arise. Classroom doors are set to lock automatically when they close.
First aid supplies and an AED (automated external defibrillator) are kept on the school property. Staff members have been trained on the use of the AED in case a student, staff member or visitor experiences a life threatening cardiac arrhythmia which leads to cardiac arrest.
All school volunteers, as well as employees, must undergo background checks and attend the sexual abuse prevention course entitled “Protecting God’s Children,” as mandated by the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
